I have always been interested in understanding others perspectives, what has led them to be on the path they are now. For me, counselling is about creating a space and an opportunity for clients to explore themselves, be able to discover and express their inner thoughts and feelings and to feel empowered.
My main training is within Psychodynamic counselling which aims to look at how our early life experiences shape the way we view ourselves, the world and others in our lives. I aim to draw on these patterns and encourage you to observe and reflect on your own thoughts, emotions and beliefs. Where appropriate I may draw on other models of therapy such as CBT. I am able to offer both short term (6-10 session) and open ended long term therapy.
As far back as I can remember I have always been interested in why we do the things we do. This inspired me to study a degree in Psychology in 2005. From 2009 – 2019 I worked as part of a Psychology team in various adult mental health services. Within these services I have run groups and helped individuals with a number of mental health conditions including anxiety, depression, anger management, identity issues and relationship difficulties.
In 2015 I decided to train further as a counsellor and completed a Diploma in Psychodynamic Counselling, qualifying in 2017. I then completed further studies helping me to understand how to work with deeper issues and provide short term counselling. Throughout this process I undertook my own personal therapy so that I could better understand my own inner world, what has led me to feel and think the way I do and help gain a true perspective.
I volunteered for a charity based in Bedford as a counsellor from 2015 – 2019. During this time I assessed potential clients for their suitability for counselling as well as held a case load of clients both short term and long term work.
I started my private practice in 2019 and am currently converting a building at my home into a comfortable and private counselling room. Whilst construction is underway I am able to rent a room just outside of the city centre in Peterborough.
