My name is Reena Kooner. I am a qualified and accredited psychotherapeutic counsellor whom has a range of experience, including developed by my several years practising as a social worker with people in difficult situations and from diverse backgrounds. I am currently running my own private counselling practice and have continued some work with a counselling charity based in the West Midlands.
I work with adults on a one to one basis, offering a safe and none-judgemental space where you can access short-term counselling to long-term psychotherapeutic work. Counselling tends to be a shorter-term process, usually between 6-12 sessions that is focused on problem-solving around a specific issue, such as at work or in a relationship. Psychotherapeutic work is a longer-term process, similar to separating out the ingredients of a soup. This includes the in-depth exploration of childhood experiences and the meaning you made of these. I am able to work with a broad spectrum of issues, commonly working with anxiety, depression, difficulties within relationships, loss, trauma, identity and cultural issues and life transitions.
I work mainly using the powerful therapeutic approach of Transactional Analysis (TA). TA draws on several traditions of psychology including child development (i.e. the typical stages we go through growing up). I also use elements of the Gestalt approach and Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (focused on the impact of our thoughts and feelings on our behaviour), as well as, mindfulness.
I am currently working across two sites in the West Midlands, in Oldbury and Bromsgrove.
My qualifications include a Psychology Degree; a Post-Graduate Diploma in Social Work; Transactional Analysis Foundation Certificate, a Certificate in Counselling Skills; Process Group Therapy training, Family Constellation training and a Diploma in Transactional Analysis Counselling. I am a registered member of the British Association for counselling and psychotherapy (BACP) and can be found in their online directory also. I aim to facilitate my therapeutic work ethically and to the highest standards therefore abide to BACP’s ethical code. I am also a practitioner member of UKATA (UK Association for Transactional Analysis) and EATA (European Association for Transactional Analysis). I adhere to current data protection legislation including being registered with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO), have a rolling Enhanced Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS), and hold full indemnity and liability insurance.
I offer daytime and evening appointments.
Once we have agreed we are comfortable to work with one another, I ask for a minimum commitment of 6 sessions. There is no upper limit of how many sessions you can have; this will depend on what you want to work on and what we agree together. Sessions usually take place on a weekly basis, on the same day and time, particularly during the initial stages of our work.
All enquiries are welcome.
I offer a free initial half hour no obligation assessment over the telephone. This is to enable me to get a summary of your current difficulties and needs, and for you to get a sense of whether I am the sort of person you want to work with.
Thereafter, my fees are £40 for a 1 hour session.
