My background is in person-centred counselling, which means that a trusting, warm and empathic relationship between you and me is essential. When we agree on a problem to focus on, then we can start using CBT, cognitive behavioural therapy, to examine your feelings and thoughts and see what can be done to help. Working together to question what’s going on, we can explore which changes in your life will make you feel better.
Often real progress can be made in 6-12 sessions or less and we can end at that point. In other cases, by mutual consent, we may embark on a longer term programme, with further sessions and regular reviews.
People who come to see me may suffer from a wide range of troublesome feelings such as sadness, depression, anxiety, anger, guilt or shame, and circumstances have made them get into a spiral of emotional pain. CBT can help with this, by allowing you to discover some changes that will reverse the spiral.
As a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP), I subscribe to its ethical framework of confidentiality and mutual respect between therapist and client.

After my first career in industry, I worked as a voluntary advisor at the Citizens Advice Bureau. I then trained as a therapeutic counsellor. My placements were with recovering drug addicts and alcoholics at a residential rehab centre and at Turning Point in Bridgwater.
I have helped clients with a variety of presenting problems including depression, anxiety, trauma, childhood and family issues, anger, substance abuse, and life events such as bereavement, disability, health issues, retirement and redundancy.
