What has brought you here, to this moment in your life?
For me, it has been the many chapters of my own story, filled with highs I want to treasure endlessly, and lows – some I want to forget, some I want to remember. Along with the many people I met – who differed in so many ways and who left some knowledge with me – it has been my own life experiences that led me to practising as a counsellor.
And as a counsellor I bring that gained human knowledge and insight with me. I also bring the wisdom learned from the many clients who have taught me much about the human condition.
I believe I can help clients to explore and confront their feelings to identify the changes they can make, and remove the obstacles in their way. It has been my experience with clients, that a strong therapeutic relationship enables nourishment, healing and empowerment. I believe we can all be empowered to find what we really want from our lives, and how we can go about making the changes that will enable us to live better and more authentic lives. I believe we can all learn to develop better relationships with ourselves and in doing that, we become our own ‘motivations’ and ‘boosts’ to leading optimal lives – lives that are better protected from outside negativity, and more resourceful, helping us to deal with our issues.
I am a qualified counsellor and a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I abide by the BACP’s high standards of proficiency and good practice, and their framework of ethics, values and principles underpin my professional conduct. While qualifying, I studied different theoretical approaches to counselling which enables me to create an appropriate and integrated approach for each client. This may also include elements of coaching. Further qualifications include:
- Certified Practitioner of NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)
- Qualified NLP Coach
- Certified Practitioner of Time Line Therapy
- MSc in Education, Power and Social Change
- BSc (Incorporating Gender Studies)
- Diploma in World Religions
Previously, working in adult education, I taught and mentored trainee and qualified teachers, gaining knowledge of work-related issues such as stress, performance anxiety and burnout. The insight and skills I attained have proven to be invaluable in my counselling and coaching. More recently, I practised at Waterloo Community Counselling which provides multi-ethnic counselling as part of its service. This experience strengthened my knowledge and understanding of inter-cultural therapy.
I also practice currently, at a specialist counselling and psychotherapy organisation, focusing on a positive approach to sexuality and relationships across the gender spectrum, with any identity and sexual orientation.
