I practice from my own comfortable counselling room in NR6, to the north of Norwich, with ample parking available on site and within easy access of the NDR. I am now also providing sessions online over Zoom and am also offering telephone sessions.
I am an Integrative Counsellor, holding the Diploma, Advanced Diploma, and have a BSc (Hons) in Integrative Counselling.
I am a Registered Member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy. As a Registered Member of BACP, I am required to attend regular supervision and have regular Continued Professional Development, as well as practising within their Ethical Framework.
I am a member of the Health and Care Professionals Council and have a current Enhanced DBS document.
I have worked in social care settings with children and families for over 25 years. I have experience of working in the public, voluntary and private sectors. I have worked in therapeutic settings and volunteered at St.Barnabas Counselling Centre, a low cost Counselling Centre in Norwich, for a number of years.
I have experience of working with people who are facing difficult life experiences including a wide range of issues such as attachment difficulties, fostering and adoption, trauma, abuse, relationship difficulties, parenting issues, stress, low self-confidence or self-esteem, rape and sexual abuse, eating disorders, depression and anxiety, divorce and separation, addictions and substance abuse, stress; as well as those who are coping with bereavement and loss, family problems, and work-related stress or confidence issues.
As part of my training, I was required to have my own extensive personal therapy, which I believe is essential to being a safe and effective therapist. My own experiences as a client have allowed me to value the importance of counselling. I believe that having a safe space to talk through your issues, to feel accepted and not judged, can be invaluable.
I offer a safe, nurturing and non-judgemental counselling relationship. I work with clients to explore the issues that bring them to counselling, and make them feel unhappy, unsatisfied or overwhelmed; exploring and working towards understanding these issues, and their responses to them. Our unhappiness may be triggered by any number of things beyond our control, but we can change how we think and the views we hold, through increased self-awareness. Therapy can help us to make changes or help us come to terms with situations in our lives, past and present – leading to more positive outcomes. Through healing from past experiences and current difficulties, and learning effective coping strategies, we have the potential to develop more meaningful and healthy relationships and create a more enriching and fulfilling life.
Integrative counselling training takes the view that there is no single approach that can treat each client in all situations. Each person needs to be considered as an individual, and counselling techniques must be tailored to their needs and personal circumstances. It lends from the schools of relational, psychodynamic and behavioural approaches to counselling, providing a rounded training – believing that no one theory holds the answer. It provides me with the ability to respond to your individual needs and what brings you for counselling, essentially tailoring your counselling to you, and not you to the therapy. My approach is firmly based on the importance of the relationship between the client and the counsellor.
I offer an initial consultation session at a reduced rate of £20.00, with no obligation.
